Start with a business plan
If you are considering starting a small business you should start with a great deal of planning and market
analysis. A business plan will not only help you understand what you will be up against but it is often needed for
initial financing.
What is a business plan?
A business plan is a document that identifies your goals, and acts as a resume for your company. Components of a business
plan include financial statements such as an income statement, current and pro forma balance sheet, and a cash flow analysis.
The business plan describes your ideas, marked problems, proposed solutions, business and revenue models, your marketing
strategy, technology, a profile of your company, analysis of your competition, and financial projections for coming years.
There are three main parts to a business plan:
- Business concept - description of the industry, the structure of your business
and products or services.
- Marketplace - describing and analyzing potential customers and competition.
- Financial - income and cash flow statement, balance sheet and other financial
ratios, such as break-even analyses.
What is a business plan used for?
Having an accurate business plan will help you decide what needs to be done with your resources and make other necessary
business decisions. A business plan is important to banks when you are seeking financing because it presents organized information
about your company and how borrowed money will be repaid. A good business plan is a crucial part of any loan application. Business
plans are also used to inform your suppliers, sales personnel, and others about your company.
How to make a business plan?
If you are not confident about creating your own business plan you can get assistance from a business consultant or accountant. There are
many websites on the internet that have business plan samples you can look at to get ideas for and help with formatting.
