Importance of Backlinks
A backlink is a link from another website to your website. Backlinks are possibly the most important factor in good search engine
placement. A website rich with content and fully optimized for search engines will have virtually no chance of ranking top 10 in search
engines if it does not have backlinks. The more backlinks your site has the better it will rank. If hundreds of website link to your
website, search engines will consider your to be an authority in your field. As an authority you will have a much greater chance ranking
in the top ten of desired searches.
Backlinks alone is not enough to make your web pages ranked at top of major search engines. It is also very important to
have keyword density on each page and follow other search engine optimization steps.
How do I get backlinks?
Establishing a large network of backlinks requires a great deal of persistance and hard work. Contacting associates, suppliers and other
companies you have business relationships with is a good start. Be prepared to reciprocate with a link back to their sites but be cautios
of scams or link farms using unethical practices. Linking to an unethical site can cause your website to be penalized in major search
engines.
Some backlinks are more valuable to your search engine placement than others. The stronger a website's search engine
repuration is the more powerful it is as a backlink to your website. Backlinks from websites in your industry are also better than a
backlink from a completely unrelated site.
Backlinks help your pages get crawled
Another benefit of backlinks is each backlink will increase the frequency at which search engines will crawl your pages for updates and
new pages.
